9-Ping Apartment Gets Japanese Wood Renovation

The project deliberately avoided extensive overhauls, concentrating instead on partial ceiling designs, essential storage planning, and creating a dedicated reading nook within the living and dining area.

Instead of fully concealing pipes with a dropped ceiling, the designers opted to paint exposed pipes to blend with the overall aesthetic.

A wooden lattice feature was installed in the entryway to divert visual attention, while the hallway utilized wooden paneling to box in beams and air conditioning pipes, preserving original ceiling height and adding aesthetic appeal.

Low-profile shoe cabinets were implemented to prevent the entryway from feeling confined, complemented by tall cabinets with bottom gaps specifically designed to accommodate robot vacuums.

Additional electrical cabinets and sideboards were installed near the dining area, providing dedicated spaces for appliances, while LED strips and varied shelf depths enhanced the aesthetic presentation of displayed items.

A grayish-brown wood veneer dining table, sourced from IKEA, was chosen for its retro, cafe-style appeal.

This extendable model can comfortably seat up to seven or eight people, providing flexibility for various gatherings, and was paired with darker-toned chairs to maintain a consistent aesthetic.

The bench offers flexible seating for guests and can be relocated from the entryway as needed, with dark wood and rattan textures aligning with the homeowner's preferred aesthetic.

Ceramic tableware serves a dual purpose, functioning both for daily meals and as decorative display items on shelves, contributing to the home's aesthetic.

A paper milk lamp, combining a vintage silhouette with a lantern design, acts as a visual focal point and features a wood-grain frame that harmonizes with the Japanese-style interior.

Soft furnishings, such as simple hooks, were utilized instead of built-in cabinetry to maintain flexibility, while an IKEA shoe-changing bench with storage provides utility and can double as an extra dining chair.

A beige-toned painting technique was applied to the TV wall, introducing warmth and texture to the living space, while the TV cabinet was extended to 240cm to achieve better proportions relative to the television's size.

Track lighting was strategically incorporated to preserve ceiling height and effectively illuminate the textured walls, enhancing their visual impact. The versatile lighting system allows for angle adjustments, enabling precise illumination of specific zones as required.

The use of track lights is particularly effective with textured walls, as the light perfectly hits the surface, creating a visually stunning effect that highlights the depth and character of the finish.

Installing ceiling fans in smaller spaces eliminates the need for standing fans and air circulators, thereby freeing up valuable floor area.

Modern ceiling fan designs now incorporate wood-textured blades, allowing them to seamlessly integrate with various interior styles while enhancing air circulation and comfort.

Positioning the sofa in the center of the living room effectively divides the space into distinct front and back sections.

The area behind the sofa was designated as a flexible zone, capable of functioning as a reading nook, a home office, or a children's play area, offering greater long-term adaptability compared to fixed partitions.

A comfortable lounge chair featuring armrests and a high backrest was selected for the homeowner's mother, providing optimal head and arm support for senior users.

To maintain tidiness, a closed-storage bookcase was installed to conceal miscellaneous items, complemented by custom-made wall-mounted magazine racks that match the bookcase's color and offer superior quality.

A power-operated sofa was integrated into the living room, allowing for adjustable seat depth to either conserve space or accommodate additional guests.

This mechanical functionality enables the sofa to expand to nearly the size of a small double bed when needed, and retracting the seat during the day helps maintain a spacious feel in the living room.

Semi-translucent honeycomb shades, selected for their material variety and ability to diffuse harsh glare, were installed to offer flexible light control. These shades provide both top-down and bottom-up options, allowing for tailored privacy and illumination.

The green-toned shades further enhanced the Japanese-style aesthetic, contributing to the serene and balanced atmosphere of the space.

Modern minimalist renovations are increasingly relying on simple installations such as system cabinets and partial drop ceilings, with furniture playing a central role in completing the interior.

This design philosophy emphasizes high-quality, movable furniture pieces that homeowners can retain if they move, reflecting a more progressive approach to space utilization in contemporary homes.
