The FBI is investigating its own personnel for an alleged counterintelligence operation that suppressed derogatory information about the Bidens ahead of the 2020 election.
John Solomon, reporting on whitehouse.gov, released documents concerning an operation labeled "Round River," which he describes as the mirror reverse image of Crossfire Hurricane.
Unlike Crossfire Hurricane, which pursued information, this operation allegedly aimed to neutralize and suppress real evidence, specifically derogatory information related to Joe and Hunter Biden.
During the 2020 election, 14 intelligence and FBI informants provided derogatory information on Joe and Hunter Biden, with some having consistent relationships with the U.S. government since as early as 2008.
The FBI reportedly labeled these reports, which detailed corruption allegations, as Russian disinformation and had analysts sanitize files to prevent the information from being used in investigations.
The operation categorized prominent figures such as Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, John Kerry, and George Soros as "victims" of Russian disinformation.
Conversely, individuals investigating Hunter Biden, including Bill Barr, Mike Pompeo, and members of Congress, were labeled as "conduits" of Russian disinformation; Solomon noted he was also personally listed as a conduit.
Agencies allegedly suppressed critical evidence, including the contents of the Hunter Biden laptop, despite having access to it and cooperating partners who could verify its authenticity.
A 2025 intelligence community review later expressed profound concern over the neutralization of valid informants, highlighting the unprecedented nature of analysts taking active informant files without evaluating the truthfulness of the evidence.
According to Solomon, the intelligence community intentionally sought to frame legitimate investigators as spreaders of misinformation.
Solomon also asserted that the FBI possessed the Hunter Biden laptop, which contained corroborating evidence of corruption, and characterized these actions as a significant act of election interference.
FBI Director Kash Patel released a letter confirming an ongoing investigation into potential criminal activity by FBI personnel involved in "Operation Round River."
The operation reportedly sought to thwart then-Attorney General Bill Barr's efforts to investigate the Bidens, specifically by discrediting evidence provided by an informant to the Pittsburgh U.S. Attorney.
