Earl Spencer Attacks Royals' 'Lack of Care' for Princes

Spencer maintains Charles told him, "We'll forget her soon enough," a comment that has sparked significant controversy.

This incident reportedly took place amidst a heated discussion over the funeral arrangements, highlighting tensions within the Royal Family during a period of intense grief. Buckingham Palace has not issued a specific response to this newest claim but has previously stated that grief can cloud memory, suggesting Spencer's recollections might be influenced by his sorrow.

Spencer, however, stands firm on his account, asserting that he is relaying the truth of the conversation as he remembers it. The veracity of the exchange remains a point of contention, with the public awaiting further details from Spencer's upcoming book.

Spencer claims Charles initially desired to walk flanked by his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, with Prince Philip and Spencer positioned on the sides of the procession.

However, Prince Philip reportedly overruled Charles's preference, insisting that Spencer, as Diana's blood relative, should occupy the central position. Philip allegedly instructed Charles to move to the side, citing his divorce from Princess Diana as the reason for this arrangement.

Spencer claims that Charles observed that everyone on the island was a blood relative of Diana except for him.

During this moment, Charles reportedly made a bizarre joke, telling Spencer, "just ignore me I'm a tree." This unusual remark has added another layer of intrigue to Spencer's recollections of the funeral period.

Buckingham Palace has not offered specific responses to Earl Spencer's newest allegations regarding King Charles's remarks or the funeral procession. The Palace has, however, previously issued a general statement suggesting that Spencer's judgments may be clouded by fraternal grief.

This broader dismissal implies that the Palace views Spencer's claims as potentially influenced by his emotional state rather than objective truth. The ongoing controversy is expected to intensify leading up to the release of Spencer's book on Tuesday, which promises to unveil more details.

A panel discussion reflected a growing weariness among some over the continuous stream of revelations from Charles Spencer concerning Princess Diana's funeral. Panel members expressed fatigue, noting that the discourse has begun to feel petty and nasty.

One panelist questioned the necessity of rehashing intimate funeral details decades after the event. The sentiment indicates a public desire for the private grief of the past to remain undisturbed.

Questions have arisen regarding the timing of Earl Spencer's revelations, surfacing nearly 30 years after Princess Diana's death. A panelist challenged Spencer, asking why he chose to air these grievances now, rather than at the time of the events.

This delay prompts debate over the potential impact these disclosures might have on Prince William and Prince Harry's relationships with their uncle. There is speculation that Spencer might eventually come to regret his decision to make these long-held private matters public.

The discussion pointed to Spencer's history of four marriages, two ruinous divorces, and the responsibility of supporting seven children.

Additionally, the panelist mentioned reports of Spencer having to sell off portions of his land, suggesting that he might be in significant need of funds. This speculation provides a potential alternative explanation for the timing of his controversial revelations.

Public sentiment today and yesterday shows people instinctively aligning with 'Team King' over 'Team Spencer,' a significant shift from historical perceptions.

This argument highlights a stark contrast between past public resentment towards Charles and current widespread support for him as monarch. Royal correspondents recall Prince Charles appearing as a broken, grieving figure at Diana's funeral, a perception that seems to have endured and contributed to his current favorable standing.

Over the past 30 years, King Charles has seemingly managed to shift public opinion, successfully navigating the complexities of his public image after Diana's death. This enduring public support suggests a long-term victory in the court of public opinion.

A panelist acknowledged that Earl Spencer appears quite plausible and sincerely believes his own version of events, lending a degree of credibility to his testimony. Spencer's stated reason for coming forward now is to provide his perspective before the 30th anniversary of his sister's death, anticipating a surge of commentary and desiring to offer his own account.

This move aims to pre-empt other narratives and ensure his side of the story is heard, despite the decades that have passed. The public's reaction to Spencer's claims is notably polarized, with strong opinions on both sides of the issue.

Some believe Spencer's account wholeheartedly, while others view it with skepticism, questioning his motives and timing. This division underscores the enduring emotional impact of Princess Diana's legacy and the unresolved tensions within the Royal Family.
