PenNMikeTV Surpasses 2 Million Subscribers… Analyzing Political Issues

PenNMikeTV announced it surpassed 2 million subscribers as of 5:17 PM. Host Choi Dae-hyun stated that high video views and subscriber growth yesterday pushed the channel past 2 million in one go.

This achievement comes 762 days after reaching 1 million subscribers, indicating the channel's rapid growth.

Despite persistent questions from reporters, Assembly member Yong avoided providing answers.

In connection with this, allegations have surfaced that her husband, Mr. Park, received 100 million won in party staff salary and improperly received childcare leave subsidies, which should not be paid to a representative's spouse.

A recording involving Minister of Justice nominee Kim Seung-won has been released, causing a stir. Choi Dae-hyun reported that in this recording, nominee Kim discussed his relationship with broker Yang and made statements regarding pharmaceutical company investment attraction and FDA approval.

In particular, a remark in the recording about thousands of billions of won coming in upon FDA approval has fueled the controversy, adding to the atmosphere of successive resignations among opposition figures.

He later clarified that his remark was a joke.

This statement led to suspicions that connections formed during the Seongnam/Gyeonggi period now dominate the current aide line. Past text messages between Assembly members Kim Nam-kuk and Moon Jin-seok also implicated Secretary Kim Hyun-ji, fueling allegations of intervention in personnel matters.

Such circumstances raise questions about the transparency of the Blue House's personnel system, with calls for clarification regarding Secretary Kim Hyun-ji's role.

The host pointed out that according to government regulations, these subsidies are not paid to representatives or their spouses.

Given that Assembly member Yong Hye-in was the leader of the Basic Income Party at the time, questions have been raised about whether her spouse's receipt of the subsidies complies with regulations.

The host stated that this covert organization provided approximately 300 million won in annual support.

These allegations of receiving funds raise concerns about the transparency of party finances and the potential involvement of unofficial organizations in politics.

The lawyer noted that a five-month turnaround for a drunk driving case is unusual compared to typical processing times.

The lawyer highlighted whether the verdict listed his occupation as a public official, the date of the incident, and whether he was a public official at the time of the drunk driving as key issues, demanding clarification on the speed of the case's resolution.

The host reported that the recording includes nominee Kim impersonating close associates of President Moon Jae-in and Chairman Lee Jae-myung, and claiming he drafted legal documents for 'Uncle Jae-myung.'

Furthermore, the recording, which includes evidence of potential destruction of evidence, has heightened questions about the background of nominee Kim receiving a suspended indictment.

Panelists pointed out that nominee Kim has a track record of miraculously making his own cases disappear.

It was argued that President Lee likely highly valued nominee Kim's past record of receiving a suspended indictment in his own case, hoping that his own case could be handled similarly, thus leading to Kim's nomination.

It was argued that the prosecutor at the time could not have been unaware of the recording's existence.

Consequently, suspicions arose that the presidential office, knowing all these facts, nominated nominee Kim with the ultimate goal of quashing his case, intensifying controversy over whether proper personnel vetting was conducted.

He repeatedly stated, "The personnel line is Kim Hyun-ji," raising suspicions of intervention in personnel matters.

Seo Yong-ju, who served as an aide in the offices of Assembly members Seol Hoon, Woo Sang-ho, and Jin Sun-mi, has sparked controversy about a 'Kim Hyun-ji line' despite the existence of a Chief of Staff for Personnel at the Blue House.

These claims raise questions about the transparency and fairness of the Democratic Party's internal personnel system, drawing attention to Secretary Kim Hyun-ji's actual influence.

Panelists argued that Chief Kim needs to come forward and state, "I don't know why these rumors are circulating about me. I have not interfered in personnel matters at all."

This was suggested as an opportunity to clearly address the allegations of personnel intervention and alleviate public doubts.

The host and panelists pointed out that if the government, after stating it would not dispatch troops, suddenly reverses its policy, those who supported its foreign policy might turn away.

The current lack of a control tower for troop dispatch was also mentioned as a problem, making systematic response difficult. Additionally, a warning was issued that showing lukewarm attitudes towards U.S. requests for war support could result in national losses.

This suggests the need for careful consideration in the government's foreign policy decisions and their ripple effects.

The panel emphasized the necessity of troop dispatch, pointing out that the South Korean military has lacked practical combat experience for 70 years, except for the Iraq deployment, since the armistice. From this perspective, dispatch can contribute to tactical strategy meetings and the advancement of naval technology.

It was argued that dispatch allows for training and experience in actual combat situations, which would serve as an opportunity to develop naval technology. However, it was added that ensuring the safety of lives must be a prerequisite for deployment.

The host questioned the government's plan to spend all the immense surplus tax revenue on next year's budget.

It was pointed out that while common sense dictates repaying debts first, the government's push for government bond issuance under the pretext of providing market liquidity could lead to different interpretations from a fiscal soundness perspective.

Panelists noted that there is a perspective that the government should release funds to help those who suffered losses in the market and stock exchange.

Conversely, there are also arguments that with severe household debt, the government should prioritize debt repayment. Despite these contrasting views, the government's expansionary fiscal stance appears to be already decided.

Attention is growing on where the government will place its emphasis in budget management and what impact this will have on the economy as a whole.

Panelists stated they understood that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix had already been negotiating with the U.S. since the announcement of the Gwangju semiconductor cluster.

In this regard, the sequence of domestic companies' investments in the U.S. and related negotiations are being closely watched. Questions have also been raised about whether it is realistically possible to pursue U.S. investments simultaneously with the establishment of the Gwangju semiconductor cluster.

Amid U.S. tariff pressure, attention is focused on the strategies Korean semiconductor companies will adopt and their impact on the domestic industry.

A panelist reported that Nvidia plans to increase product prices by more than 15% starting next year. This price hike is expected to significantly impact the operating profit margins of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix.

The panelist inferred that memory margins could be secured to match Nvidia's price increase, analyzing this as a positive factor for the performance improvement of domestic semiconductor companies.

Nomura Securities' forecast highlights a contrast between skeptical views on a short-term sharp rise and the logic of actual corporate performance. Experts are watching closely how these aggressive target prices will connect with actual results.

The panelist mentioned that foreign investors would heavily consider these two indicators.

There is a possibility of decoupling between U.S. interest rate cuts and Korean interest rate hikes, which will significantly influence foreign investors' decisions to enter the Korean market. Therefore, the South Korean government's clear policy direction will be crucial for foreign capital inflow.
