Prosecutor Park Sang-yong Offers 100 Million Won Bet to Rep. Seo Young-kyo

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong explained that his offer of a 100 million won bet to Representative Seo Young-kyo was not due to personal motives but unavoidable circumstances. He stated that he made this offer to respond to Representative Seo Young-kyo's repeated accusations and abuse of immunity, to prevent the waste of national investigative resources due to false accusations, to encourage a sense of responsibility among politicians, and to draw public attention.

Prosecutor Park admitted that his proposal might not be appropriate for a public official, saying, "Oh, I don't have the intention as a public official to bet something like that, and I shouldn't. However, the reason I had no choice but to do this is...", emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong pointed out that in addition to the accusations against him, there are more than 30 similar accusations, criticizing that this leads to a waste of national investigative resources and delays in processing actual cases for the public. He argued that these accusations act as a performative pressure through investigative agencies.

Prosecutor Park stated, "There are more than 30 cases similar to mine. But nothing is being done about these, and there are 30 prosecutors and ordinary citizen witnesses involved," emphasizing that despite numerous similar cases, proper measures are not being taken.

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong explained that the 100 million won bet offer means that if one is a true politician, it should not be difficult to take responsibility for one's words and donate to their constituency. He stated that he is earnestly awaiting this proposal to curb irresponsible accusations and encourage accountability among politicians.

Prosecutor Park urged Representative Seo Young-kyo to respond, saying, "If you are a true politician, you should take responsibility for your words, and what's difficult about donating to your constituency? That's what you do, so I am actually earnestly awaiting her response."

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong explained that the reason he refused to take an oath during the National Assembly hearing was to defend against the scenario of dismissing prosecution in existing trials through a special prosecutor. He stated that it was a strategy to prevent being caught in an intentionally created trap by completely blocking perjury controversy, thereby removing the special prosecutor's justification.

Furthermore, Prosecutor Park made it clear that if a National Assembly member were to remove the clause for dismissal of prosecution, he would immediately agree to take the oath. He emphasized that his refusal to take the oath was a defensive measure, stating, "I can't possibly walk into a trap that they've set, with its jaws wide open, can I? I am doing this to prevent the dismissal of prosecution in the first place."

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong strongly criticized the inclusion of a dismissal of prosecution clause in the Special Prosecutor Act, arguing that it deviates from the special prosecutor's original purpose of exposing only manipulated indictments and contains a political intent to dismiss existing trials. He believes that the true purpose of those who proposed the special prosecutor was to dismiss trials, and his refusal to take an oath was to prevent this.

He added that there has recently been a move to remove the dismissal of prosecution clause, sensing public opinion. Prosecutor Park emphasized, "If the special prosecutor is only going to expose manipulated indictments, then that's all they should do. Why would that person dismiss existing trials? What they wanted was the dismissal of trials, and I refused to take an oath to prevent that."

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong stated that there has been no response from Representative Seo Young-kyo's side since he offered her the 100 million won bet. Prosecutor Park added that media outlets initially hesitated to report on this but later began to cover it.

He conveyed his thoughts on Representative Seo Young-kyo's silence and the media's initial reaction, saying, "There has been no response so far. Absolutely none. In fact, I think the media also hesitated a bit."

Prosecutor Park Sang-yong criticized Representative Seo Young-kyo's accusation content as utterly lacking constituent elements, to the point where it could not possibly have been written by one normal person. He pointed out that such accusations, containing absurd claims related to contempt of the National Assembly, lead to unnecessary police summons and waste taxpayers' money.

Prosecutor Park emphasized the indiscriminate nature of these accusations, saying, "It's the kind of accusation that you can't possibly believe a single normal person wrote. And they use taxpayers' money to make accusations like that."

This investigation concerned an accusation related to Mr. Jung Eun-ho, and Prosecutor Park also mentioned that protesters had gathered around the police station during the summons for investigation.

He confirmed that the investigation indeed took place, saying, "On Friday, I also went to the Public Crime Investigation Unit and was investigated."
