Doosan Enerbility Sets Sights on US Nuclear Power Market

As investments in large-scale nuclear power plants and small modular reactors (SMRs) expand in the United States, expectations for Doosan Enerbility's orders are growing. This is expected to positively impact the overall nuclear power industry in conjunction with changes in US energy policy.

In particular, discussions about acquiring a stake in Westinghouse are seen as a critical opportunity for Doosan Enerbility to participate in US nuclear power plant construction consortiums.

Westinghouse is a key company possessing original nuclear power technology and design, and acquiring a stake in it is considered essential for entering the US nuclear power market. While South Korea boasts excellent nuclear power plant construction technology, it is difficult to enter the US market without cooperation with Westinghouse, which holds core technologies.

Yum Seung-hwan, Director, explained that securing a stake in Westinghouse would facilitate entry into the US market through Westinghouse, a company that manufactures key components for the US.

This is interpreted as a strategic move that can create synergy in the US nuclear power market by combining Korea's construction technology with Westinghouse's original technology.

The government announced plans to invest over 5 trillion won in humanoid and physical AI by 2030 to build a robot ecosystem. Along with this, it set a target to raise the localization rate of core components to 80%.

The host predicted that such active government support policies would accelerate the growth of the domestic robotics industry.

Major domestic companies are also actively investing in the robot business and striving to build an ecosystem. Hyundai Motor plans to construct an AI data center in Saemangeum to develop and embed intelligence necessary for robots through AI learning.

Director Yum Seung-hwan mentioned that Hyundai Motor's strategy would contribute to increasing the autonomy and efficiency of robots.

US robot companies, including Tesla, are highly dependent on Chinese-made components. However, the US is strengthening its stance on excluding Chinese components due to security concerns, which could create new opportunities for Korean robot companies.

Director Yum Seung-hwan explained that the US's concern is the security risk of spy chips being embedded in robots, allowing China to monitor them, and due to this, Korea is expected to emerge as an alternative to China for component sourcing.

It was advised that when investing in robot-related stocks, it is necessary to approach them with a long-term perspective, centered on Hyundai Motor. The Hyundai Motor Group plans to mass-produce Boston Dynamics' Atlas robot in 2028, so it is advisable to maintain a long-term investment until then.

Director Yum Seung-hwan recommended exploring investment opportunities by focusing on the entire robot value chain and core component companies.

If selecting individual robot stocks is difficult and not straightforward, utilizing a robot ETF can be an effective investment alternative. Director Yum Seung-hwan suggested considering an ETF that invests across the entire robot value chain.

He mentioned ETFs such as KODEX Hyundai Motor Robotics Value Chain Top 3 Plus as an example, explaining that through this, investors can reap the benefits of the robot industry's growth.
