Coast Guard Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin, who refused an order to leak CCTV data, begins sixth lawsuit for reinstatement

It has been pointed out that the Coast Guard is misusing Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin's psychiatric treatment history as grounds for non-reinstatement. Lieutenant Shim stated that psychiatric treatment is common in modern society and that he himself sometimes receives treatment, emphasizing that it is unfair to use this as an argument to support the legitimacy of his dismissal. Even after the court's ruling, the Coast Guard continues to present the same logic, blocking Lieutenant Shim's reinstatement.

Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin stated that there was a clear order from his superior to view CCTV footage, and that he even secured a recording of it. However, the first-instance court did not acknowledge this order, ruling that Lieutenant Shim, as a veteran police officer with over 20 years of service, should not have followed illegal orders, and thus shifted all responsibility to him. Lieutenant Shim claimed that there were also instances where his superior's name was deleted or altered during this process, pointing out contradictions in the court's judgment.

The reality of 'forgery of public documents,' one of the disciplinary reasons presented against Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin, has been revealed. The Coast Guard exaggerated a single approval of CCTV footage as forgery of public documents to discipline Lieutenant Shim. However, Lieutenant Shim refuted this, stating that it does not even meet the legal requirements for forgery of public documents, which is a serious crime warranting dismissal from public service. He added that there was no legal benefit to filing a criminal complaint in this matter, so no complaint was even made, arguing that the Coast Guard's disciplinary reasons are legally flawed.

Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin has appointed a new lawyer from Law Firm Gangnam to prepare for future legal action. The lawyer, hearing of Lieutenant Shim's difficult circumstances, took on the case for only a small fraction of their usual fee, stating that if the case is resolved successfully, they could receive further payment later, thus actively offering assistance. Lieutenant Shim has gone through a total of five lawsuits so far, and this will be his sixth legal battle.

Choi Young-min, director of New 탐사 (New Explorers), foreshadowed that the broadcast of Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin's reinstatement struggle might be prolonged. Director Choi stated that while New 탐사 usually concludes cases with one or two broadcasts, Lieutenant Shim Jae-jin's case requires continuous coverage and reporting until his reinstatement is complete. This demonstrates New 탐사's strong commitment to supporting Lieutenant Shim's lonely struggle and exposing the injustice.
